The all star season: dancing with the stars "plan

I haven’t really been watching this season of Dancing With the Stars, mainly because I was in school, but there really hasn’t been anyone on this season’s cast that has made me not want to watch.

But it looks like this upcoming fall season may get me as a viewer.

While as a guest host on Thursday’s (Apr. 26) Live! With Kelly, DWTS runner-up Mario Lopez brought it up in conversation that he was approached by ABC to appear on the next season of the series.

“I thought she was doing amazing,” he said, when he added, “You know what, Kelly? They’re doing a Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars this next season. They called me to do it.”

While word from the alphabet network has come out to confirm the news, Lopez expressed that he didn’t how he would pull it off if he decided to join. Now a father of a two-year-old and the host of Extra TV, Lopez’s plate is full and he may not be up to his former dancing shape like he was in 2006.

So who will be returning this fall? I’m guessing the casting could go down numerous ways. ABC could decide on actually bringing back fan favorites based on emails, tweets and voting trends.

They could go with a mixture of actual fan favorites and who they would think would make great TV.

They could bring back all the runner-ups and give them another crack at winning that mirror ball trophy; making it a best-of-the-best season.

And finally, they could bring back all the contestants who were expected to win the show, but due to an injury or random voting results, left earlier than expect.

Who knows. Only time will tell.

Who do you think should appear on an all-star season?

The history of the sport, I resolutely passive

As I’m watching the NFL draft and Tigers baseball in my easy chair, it seems like a good time to chat about my life in sports. I’ve never been remotely athletic which has diminished my interest in sports certainly. My dad has always been a big sports fan so that kept me into it as I was growing up so I wasn’t a complete loser. I remember watching basketball a lot in the 80s when the Pistons were good and we’ve always watched Lions football on Sundays and listened to the Tigers on the radio when working in the garage, but when I moved out I kind of got out of it all. Except Michigan football. I lived in Ann Arbor, you can’t ever get away from Michigan football.

I got back into it when I met Becky. Our initial courtship coincided with the magical 2006 Tigers run to the World Series so we watched a lot of those games at bars on dates and attended a few in person but it was mainly football that was our thing because Becky had season tickets. Kind of a twist on the standard relationship roles, eh? Once we started going to football games regularly I was hooked. Hooked to a ridiculous degree. This also reignited the full flame of my UM football interest. So between 2007-2008 we were all about football and forgot about baseball.
